According to news paper, the major problem
will occurs to those who use software which are dated to back earlier 60'ties and 70'ties. After what i know when i talked to guys who are system administrators, they say that it is very few who still use that so old software for ex sample accounting system and calculate salary and so on. (business type will go havoc!!).

A little bit off the subject, this date is supposed to cause some commotion in the tech world. I'm not sure exactly why and I'm not sure if this is even accurate, but it's an easy date to remember and I'm getting married tomorrow, specifically cuz of the date, easy to remember, I will never have to worry about forgetting my anniversary and upsetting the wife. HEHEHE!

The reason why 9/9/99 could cause havoc is because in a lot of the old legacy systems software application programmers used to use 9999 as an end of file marker, that is to say the end of the file has been reached. Now in cases where the date is a primary key of a file, when an application reads the file to process the records/data in it and comes across a vaild 9999 it will (if the system has not be rectified) assume that this is the end of the file and thus finish processing......what happens to all the other data in the file...what will it mean???

You know, it was 8/8/88 when Gen.Zia ul Haq (then President of Pakistan) was signing some document when his assistant said: Sir! That's such an odd date...8/8/88. Gen Zia smiled and said: One day I shall be writing 9/9/99 as well. And guess what. He died 10 days later. Ah! Fate!
