I think British Monarchs are bunch of Plunderers. The bounty from Plundering India helped the British Industrial revolution. It disgusts me to see people so greatly in awe of the British Monarchy. Why don't they admit to looting half of the world?

By the time India was plundered, the monarchs had lost most of their power already. It was the elected Prime Ministers of Britain, and the population of Britain that elected them, who bore responsibility for the plunder.

This was set in motion long before British Monarchs lost their power. Their part in this plunder can't simply be lifted away by pinning the blame on Government and people. Queen was the primary recipient of all the wealth regardless.

The royals should be paraded around the chowk in calcutta naked and people should pee on them as they go by. They should be made to walk all the way to kabul going west stopping at each major town and city where similar service is administered.

Then Pak/India should send a delegation to the British parliament, while it is in session and pee all over the stuffy wankers.

Then we should go and party with the irish at St Matin's lane hotel bar followed by a largescale peeing session in Feckingham palace.

It was technological superiority, coupled with the the fact that Europe had centuries of brutal internecine warfare which enabled them to become masters of the art of conventional warfare. They were also very good at playing off local powers against each othe - the art of divide and conquer.

It's worthwhile bearing in mind that the one third-world leader who managed to come closest to defeating the goray was Tipu Sultan - who's succcess came from wholeheartedly adopting European weaponry and abandoning Indian war strategies and tactics in favour of European techniques.

Well that's one way of looking at it. Remember that this has always been the way of the world. The British were just the latest in a long list of invaders in India (Aryans, Huns, Arabs, Afghans, Mongols, Mughals, Turks, French, Portugese, etc. etc.). If the Brits were unsuccessful, then it would have been the French or Dutch or Portugese or even Turks. We were there to be taken at that time.

As far as the influence of the Brits goes, I think I would have been much happier to be a slave for the British then for any other dominant nation of the time (inc Muslim Turks). Just look at us now compared to other third world countries- we (natives of sub-continent) are a lot more politically aware and "free" in our countries compared to those who lived under the French (African states), Turks (all the Arab states) and Dutch (South Africa & Rhodesia). The main reason for that is that the British believed (a very racist viewpoint these days!!) that they were chosen by God to look after the lesser nations - something called "white man's burden" that was taught to them at school. So they always tried to educate the natives and develop them. It was the Brits that taught us democracy (through Congress etc), left us legal and aministrative systems that we are still using and left us things like railways and old buildings etc. that we are still using.

If we had someone else, we would still be like Afghanistan or the arab states (without the oil). As far as the plundered wealth goes, there are no diamond or Gold mines in Indo-Pak as far as I know so most of what was plundered by them was imported into the Sub-continent anyway!!

Khattana, Hyderabad was for centuries the only known dource of high quality diamonds until reserves in the Americas and Africa were exploited.

In fact, Hyderabad's diamond wealth was so extensive as to have made Hyderabad one of the world's top 10 richest countries during its bried independence period from 1947 to 1948.

The Koh-i-Noor, for example, was mined in Hyderabad.

Having said that, Hyderabad's wealth remained independent from Britain. Being the one of the few Indian states to have never fought against Britain, and instead allying itself with Britain against all other Indian states, Hyderabad managed to avoid becoming an official part of British India and maintained some degree of independece as a British protectorate ruled by the Nizam.
