A Tear worth a Thousand words.

On a Pakistani TV channel there is a program called “shadi-on-line”

I have watched a few odd episodes. They have short video clips of three candidates who are seeking partners showing their life style and family. The candidates are then called to the program and interviewed about what qualities they are seeking in their partners and what r their expectations.

One of there candidates was a woman from Karachi (malir). She was 39 year old, Had suffered from polio when she was 5. Because of lack of funds she never had an operation and lived with a limp all her life. In extreme poverty her mother managed to give her education till metric, and taught her how to sew. After the death of her mother she was the breadwinner of the family and managed to get her 2 younger sisters married. Her main source of earning was sewing.

When she was called for the program she was cross questioned by the compare and when the compare asked her why she dint get married earlier or why couldn’t she find a suitor, a tear came out of her eye which she wiped quickly………….

A few days back an article titled “Frustrated Pakis go online to find a mate” came out in Chicago chronicle depicting the program as a pimp show like Blind date, or…

I would like to tell the author of the article that yes! We are Frustrated Pakistanis, not because of lust, we are frustrated because of poverty, because of social taboos, lack of medical welfare and because of injustice.

So next time when a journalist in Chicago is sipping his beer and writing an article about a TV Program in a third world country he should think of the responsibility he has to that one tear
    I hate you.

                    Sad. Very Sad.

India also has a similar program, I don't know if they air it anymore or not, but Madhuri hosts it, Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai.
