Rumours of actor Saif Ali Khan's marriage to former actress Amrita Singh being on the rocks are ripping through showbiz corridors.
Saif has reportedly shifted out of his Belscott Towers bungalow in Lokhandwala, Versova, and moved to a rental apartment. The couple have two kids, Sara and Ebrahim.
Insiders insist that problems have been simmering for long. While Saif has supposedly cited generic reasons, such as not getting along, to his friends, a dear friend of the couple says that Saif insists, "I love Dingy (Amrita), but I'm not in love with her."
Rumour has it that Saif's alleged philandering has been a serious issue. In the past, he's been allegedly linked with filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and actress Smriti Mishra.
More recently, speculative prose was churned out about his friendship with actress Preity Zinta during the making of Kal Ho Naa Ho. A friend volunteers, "The recent success of Hum Tum emboldened Saif enough to leave Dingy."
An actor friend of Amrita's volunteered to play peacemaker, but she reportedly declined, saying, "If Saif has decided to move on, I don't want to stop him."
On her part, Amrita is reportedly making a comeback with TV, in a show produced by Ektaa Kapoor. She is also reportedly contemplating filing for divorce.
Reportedly, Saif has closed their joint accounts, withdrawing his share.
On August 14, two days prior to Saif 's birthday, the couple were seen dining with Dimple Kapadia at fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla's residence. It's being said that the duo tried to play peacemakers but to no avail.
The next day, it is said, Saif flew to Delhi and apprised his parents — Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi — of the developments. His parents are reportedly upset and tried to unsuccessfully talk Saif out of his decision.
Interestingly enough, it is said that his parents were opposed to their clandestine marriage in the early 90's.
At the moment, Saif is away in London on a tour organised by the Morani brothers. Attempts to contact the couple came to nought.
Though a dear friend of the couple sallies, "I hope this is just a temporary separation and that better sense prevails over Saif so that after a month of non-stop star shows and partying in the UK, he misses Sara and Ebrahim and returns to Dingy."
Close on the heels of the Aamir Khan-Reena split, this latest rumoured breakup has caused the fur to fly in tinselville.
