    Pakistan Cricket Team's New Coach?

smooth_guy, in one of his posts made a very good point about the Pakistani team. He said: ‘We have plenty of talent...all we need is a good coach who can give them strength to play fearlessly like Amir Sohail, Saeed and Inzimam used to do in 90s.’

Who in your opinion would be the best coach, and will manage to get the team to play as one unit, rather than worrying about their individual performances?

I still believe Javed Miandad would be the best person for the job. However, I have a feeling he will not be accepted by the powers that be in the PCB. The only other two people I would have confidence in, would be Amir Sohail and Moin Khan. They are the only other pople with the spirit and the passion that could get the Pakistani team to play as ‘one unit’.

Who do you think would make the best coach?

A desi coach in the Pakistani team is an impossible job, our Pakistani players think they are too good for a desi guy but listen to a gora, I say get someone like Viv Richards or Micheal Holding, someone with power and authority.

I think Pybus is ok. It's too easy to blame the coach, but fact is we have needed someone to make our lafangay players take a professional approach for a while. Maybe they need to change their attitudes and shape up. I think one good thing that's come from the current coaching set up has been the introduction of fitness levels - unheard of under past coaches, miandad included.

Umair yaar, I think the Pakistani team, after the world cup, will be quite different from what we have seen in the past few years. There will be new players, without the grand egos and without the 'super-star' status. Hence, I believe they will be more receptive to a good home grown coach, as there would be no history or an axe to grind.

This time we need to use our own maal, no import material

The reason is, when we had Jawed miandad we atleast reached the final and this time each one of our player didn't really seemed in their best abilities.

waiseh I suggest Imran Khan, din maiN main do baar interview diya jata hai Pakistan team per.. bbc ko, I don't know why he didn't go with 'em and let out everything he has to say right there *smack

Xtreme yaar, yes Pybus has done well in helping the Pakistani team improve its fitness level. However, apart from this, I do not believe he has a better cricketing brain than some of the people mentioned.

I also believe the required level of annunciation from a foreign coach when addressing some of the players in the manner they deserve (read swearing in punjabi/urdu) would be as effective as it would coming from Amir Sohail or Moin Khan

The coach is irrelevant in the game of cricket. What matters is the Captain. We need a captain with a vision and one who is respected by his peers. From the current/new lot I think Yousuf Youhana has a very good cricketing brain. He also seems to get along well with the rest of the team. He is a permanent menber in both forms of the game. My second choice would be Saqlain as he brings County experience too. The only thing is that Saqi is not an automatic choice in every match.

Saqi would be a good choice, had it been in 1999. He was the superstar of the team, bringing down the wickets every game.

He needs a confidence boost. Youhana would make a good captain too.

Let's sign Wasim Akram as the Coach of Pakistan!

Saqi and Yoyo are too laid back too be captain. Younis Khan might have been the best bet assuming he canretain his place.

funguy.....who told u that in cricket coach is irrelevant. We have witnessed from Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Saleem Elahi to Mohd Wasim, they have talent but technically these kids training. They all have one or two very bad shorts that they always get out on. Someone has to teach them those techniqes buddy. Its not captain's job, and we are not discussing captain's importance here at all. Captains main job is on the field. His job is to use the right weapon at the right time and to pump up the fighting spirit in any circumtances. Just like Great Khan.

As for techniq we have an example of Afridi.
Didn't Miandad helped Afridi to improve his techniqe....he looses his wicket because of his tullaybaazi but people saw him playing test cricket and staying at the wickets for hours and hours after weeks of sessions with Miandad. I hate Afridi for his tullaybaazi but thats another story.

Everyone knows Imran Nazir is good but he has one bad short which kills him in every inning. And all of the openent bowlers know about that flaw in his batting, whomever has played against him. He is exposed badly.

Faisal Iqbal and Hasan Raza can replace Younis Khan in Test matches but they need coaching too....being defensive all the time will not make them big player. Making 60 runs in a all day long inning is a no no..

Imran Farhat and Elahi needs foot work lessons big time.

Taufeeq Omer should be Pakistan's opener for atleast one decade now. He has all the shots and he can be next Amir Sohail without an doubt.

But we need Saeed's alternate to pair with Taufeeq....and the aforementioned four players could take his place if someone is their to polish them. Having all natural stroke players in the team is not bad......NZ has the same kinda team...but if half of team have vulnerablity to bowled out on some specific delivery then anyone can beat them. The joke in this world cup was that the natural stroke players were frightened to touch the ball or played half-heartedly. Look @ Inzi how he got out against England....it was cleared that he had no intention of staying at wicket at all.

We need a month long training session in which Miandad, Saeed and Amir Sohail teach these new kids the defensive, aggressive, fighting spirit and mental strength. Who else can give them these lessons other than these three who have played under all kind of circumtances and never disappointed the nation.

Wasim and Imran should join the above squad for the bowlers.....I bet you that choose TOP 30 guys from Domestic teams and hand over them to these legendary sportsmen....if they didn't charged a new spirit in these kids then tell me I was wrong.

I wouldn't want Miandad as a coach. He wasn't an orthodox player to start with but he got away with it due to his individual brilliance. Plus he is not really a team guy, he's already in the press saying that Zimbabwe will beat Pak today. I wouldn't want that sort of guy in my corner.

I think Pybus has done a decent job in getting players in good physical shape and players like Inzimam can now look forward to a prolonged career because of it. Why should the coach be sacked because our batting hasn't been up to scratch?

If he's so bad why do they keep recalling him after making him the scapegoat after every bad campaign?

we definitely need a desi guy.....uve heard ppl like inzi n imran nazir n afridi spk at presentations....how is richard pybus supposed to communicate with them.....we need someone who speaks urdu.....n punjabi!!.....
Miandad did a very good job....
they should offer him....he mite take the job....!
someone like imran wudve been great....but he now a member of the national assembly and is too much into politics....

after the world cup....we will have some fresh blood in the side....and there will finally be an end to the politics n fight fr captaincy etc....
it will be kinda like sri lanka after '96....they did suffer a bit but the youngsters were able to do well and got sri lanka back after the 99 world cup!!....theyre currecntly the leaders of group B
