Pakistan's Anwar first to score 2000 runs in desert

Saeed Anwar reached a personal milestone as Pakistan scored 178 for two wickets after 35 overs against Sri Lanka in the Sharjah triangular series on Friday.

The left-handed Pakistan batsman, playing his 47th match in Sharjah and 221st overall, became the first player to score 2,000 runs at the desert venue when he reached 48.

He was batting on 83 in partnership with Inzamam-ul-Haq who was unbeaten on 71.

Pakistan had stuttered early in the innings losing both openers Imran Nazir and Shahid Afridi by the fourth over.

Nazir was caught by Russel Arnold at short mid-wicket off Nuwan Zoysa for two, while Afridi was run out next ball after a mix-up with Anwar for 13 off eight balls.

With Pakistan reeling at 18 for two, Anwar and Inzamam-ul Haq steadied the innings with sensible batting.

Anwar, who has scored 90 and 81 in the previous two innings in the three-nation competition which includes New Zealand, remained on top form scoring 50 off 45 balls with seven fours.

Well done Anwar, he is in superb form, also Inzi completed his 2000 runs at Sharjah. Congrats to him as well.

They both batted very well.. loved watching their innings.. wish they could've score centuries !!! Sharjah's more like Pak's home ground, all the spectators r on Pak's side n Pak has always performed well in Sharjah.. actually better than they perform in Pak...

Saeed Anwar also reached his 8000 runs in One day Internationals, in this game. The first Pakistani batsman to reach that figure. He reached it in 221 one days at an average of 39.9 runs.

Inzimam is also very close to that figure and could get there within the next two games in sharjah.
Inzimam also made his 58th half century in this game, equaling Azharuddin's record for most 50's in one day games. Hopefully on sunday he will brake this record.

ZZ, the weak pitches are only in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Srilanka. The pitches in Sharjah are completely fine.
That is the only reason India won the test series and the 2 ODI against the Aussies last month. I would like to see them go past the 250th mark when they meet Australia in september
