    Pakistani New Coach Anounnced

    Karachi Apr 12 , 2001

A beleaguered Pakistan Cricket Board continued its quest for a coach even as it spotted former Australian cricketer Darryl Foster for the job, which has been refused by quite a few including Greg Chappell and Barry Richards.

The PCB is seriously considering the former Australian cricketer Darryl Foster as the coach for its team before the forthcoming tour to England beginning next month, its Chairman, Lt Gen Tauqir Zia was quoted by 'The News' as saying.

The Board zeroed in on Foster after former South African batsman Barry Richards declined the offer to be a coach. Richards, however, has accepted the job of a consultant, the newspaper said.

Former Australian cricket captain Greg Chappell had also rejected the chance to become the first foreigner to coach the national team earlier last week, citing his commitments to South Australian Cricket Association.

Foster, a former Western Australian coach, has led his county team to victories in the Sheffield Shield tournament.

Foster is currently involved in rectifying Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar's bowling action in Australia. The paceman was sent there for evaluation and training after his bowling action was questioned by the Umpires during the recent New Zealand tour.

The coach's job was made vacant after Pakistan Cricket Board sacked coach Javed Miandad on April 3 following the team's disastrous showing in New Zealand.
