INDIA beats PAKISTAN for Dhaka Hockey title

India beat Pakistan for Dhaka hockey title
India defeated Pakistan 6-5 to clinch the nine-nation Prime Minister's Gold Cup hockey tournament, in Dhaka, on Tuesday.

The teams were tied at 3-3 after 70 minutes regulation time. 15 minutes of extra-time too failed to break the deadlock.

In the tie-breaker, India's Daljit Singh scored with the team's fifth penalty, after Pakistan's Muhammad Nadeem's shot had bounced back from the post, to clinch the issue.

Earlier, India's skipper Baljit Singh Dhillon and Arjun Halappa had scored from their penalties to give the team a 2-0 lead after Pakistan's Sohail Abbas and Muhammad Sarwar missed.

But Pakistan levelled the score to 2-2 when Haider Hossain and Waseem Ahmed scored.

In normal time, Radha Krishnan (21st and 23rd minutes) and Dilip Tirkey (68th) scored for India while Mohammad Sarwar (16th and 29th minutes) and Mohammad Ndeem (58th minute) accounted for Pakistan's goals.

In the play-off for third place, Egypt beat Japan via the tie-breaker after the teams were locked 3-3 after extra-time.

Adnan El Sayed (18th), Belal Ibrahim (35th) and El Sayed Gaballa (50th) scored for Egypt during regular play while Yamabori Takahiko got a hat-trick for Japan, scoring in the 17th, 20th and 43rd minutes.

They play only those games with us where they know they may beat us.

Don't feel bad: the record goes like this:

It was India's 32nd defeat of its old adversary in 93 meetings. Pakistan has won 44 and 17 matches have been drawn.

Pakistan is still on TOP ... They're happy
becasue it is one of those rare...
