Australia defeats Pakistan to win bronze again

The Australian men's hockey team have repeated their Atlanta performance and taken bronze in the Sydney 2000 Olympics after defeating Pakistan 6-3 on Saturday.
Australia celebrate bronze medal victory over Pakistan
The Australians, who were bronze medallists in Atlanta, displayed their best effort of the tournament in what was a fast paced match.
They opened the scoring in the third minute with a penalty corner variation involving Brent LIVERMORE and finishing with Troy ELDER finding the back of the net.
Pakistan equalised only three minutes later with Atif BASHIR deflecting the ball past the keeper. Australia returned to the lead moments later when ELDER beat the Pakistani keeper to score his second goal.
Australia continued to apply pressure to the Pakistani defence, but goalkeeper Ahmad ALAM made some terrific saves to keep them in the match. Muhammad ANIS made some probing attacks, but was unable to convert these into goals.
Australia scored their third goal form a penalty corner, Stephen DAVIES cleaning up off the keepers pads. Australia lead 3-1 at half time.
The Australians dominated the second half from the whistle having several unsuccessful shots at goal before Pakistan converted a penalty corner through Sohail ABBAS in the 46th minute.
After great lead up work, which included several close attempts at goal Australia's James ELMER flicked the ball over the keeper to score their 4th goal.
ELDER scored the 5th goal moments later finishing off a shot from Adam COMMENS and their 6th goal was a solo effort from Michael BRENNAN finding the backboard with a reverse stick shot.
Pakistan scored a consolation goal in the last seconds of the game, but Australia had outplayed them and deserved the bronze medal.
