Shoaib Cleared To Steam In For Notts

Pakistani paceman Shoaib Akhtar has been cleared to play for Nottinghamshire from the end of May.
Pakistan officials said they will need Shoaib for their three-Test tour of the Caribbean from April 1 to May 26. But the fast bowler, dubbed the 'Rawalpindi Express', has been excused duty in the tour to Sri Lanka in July.

"The tour to the West Indies is very important so we need to have the best bowling attack there," said Pakistani Cricket Board ad hoc committee chairman Tauqir Zia.

"We will talk to the administration at Nottinghamshire and tell them we need Akhtar for the West Indies tour but he may escape the Sri Lanka tour in July."

Shoaib was recruited by Nottinghamshire after sparkling at last year's World Cup in England, and his acquisition has sparked a wave of excitement at Notts.

The 24-year-old was banned by the International Cricket Council for having an illegal bowling action in December but was subsequntly allowed to play again after an ICC ruling.
