India boycotts ICC coaching course in Pakistan

India has boycotted a three-day International Cricket Council (ICC) coaching programme that started in Pakistan on Monday.

Former Pakistani all-rounder Nasim-ul-Ghani, ICC Asian development officer, said that Indian representatives were invited to participate to train staff coaches for other Asian countries.

``But we didn't get any response which is very depresssing and disappointing. The Indian cricket board was informed and invited to the clinic well in advance,'' he said.

Nominees from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan are taking part in the clinic.

The incident comes amid heightened tension between arch-rivals Pakistan and India, locked in a war of words after the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane last month.

Relations between the nuclear rivals worsened after New Delhi accused Islamabad of being involved in the eight-day hijacking that ended on December 31.

India also boycotted an ICC meeting in Islamabad in November in which Bangladesh were awarded the right to host the Asia Cup in May.

India also withdrew from last year's five-match series against Pakistan in Toronto because of worsening relations over Kashmir.

Pakistan is scheduled to host India for three tests next year.

They won't play us in Toronto , they won't attend the ICC coaching course in Pakistan, but they will play us In Australia. Can someone explain the logic.

Bal Thackeray has also called for a ban on sporting ties b/w India and Pakistan. As soon as an important tournament comes along though, everyone will want to play. It's all hot air and makes the Indians look stupid.
