Tendulkar not in favour of playing Pakistan at Toronto

MUMBAI: Master batsman Sachin Tendulkar today said he stood by
what he had stated a few days earlier about playing against Pakistan
in the annual five-match series at Toronto in September, reports PTI.

Asked his opinion on the sensitive issue the newly-appointed
national cricket captain said, "we were...the two countries were
fighting against each other. A number of jawans had died. It is a very
sad thing. Even today, in fact every day, there is news (about it) on
the front page. I stick to my opinion." The ace batsman had
supported former India skiper Kapil Dev's stand of snapping
cricketing ties with Pakistan at the height of the Kargil crisis. The
sponsors of the series, Sahara India pariwar, then pulled out of the
event throwing it into doubt. Later Kapil Dev changed his stand and
said the ties can be resumed now that the Pak intruders have been
driven out of Kargil. International Cricket Council's president and
Cricket Association of Bengal's chief Jagmohan Dalmiya has also
opined that the series can be held in the current scenario. The board
secretary Jaywant Lele said recently at Nagpur that it was awaiting
permission from the government for undertaking the visit to Toronto
but has reportedly expressed his doubts about the tour coming off.

I'm don't mind the tourney being cancelled.
It will give Wasim more time to clear his
name and regain his spot on the team,
      hopefully as captain.

He's a much better captain than
      Moin Khan or Saeed Anwar.

Being a good player doesn't translate into
      being a good skipper.

Wasim is the best thinker on the Pakistan
      team.

He's the one responsible for putting
together a new generation of young cricketers
that will keep the team competive for years
      to come.

Obviously to avoid being thrashed by Pak team what else can Tendulkar do but hide behind an excuse. After all we should not forget that his back suddenly started to play up when he was clean bowled by Shoaib at Calcutta. He had to save his reputation as the best batsmen in the world, hence his back problems. Note the back problems disappeared when he faced Kenyan bowlers. Some batsmen.

if u remember right, talk of back injury came after he scored century against Pak at Chennai, a test that India lost by 12 runs. he played with Pak in WC and not just Kenya, he scored 45 in that game and Shoib spent his 10 overs for 55 runs taking Robin Singh's wicket.
