The biggest "draws" in world cricket

Well, after reading a recent biggest hitters ever thread, and especially one of the posts mentioned below -

It got me thinking; who (were and) are the single biggest draws in world cricket? Which players and sportsmen do people from all around the world talk about the most? Whether that be in household, dinner table, family gatherings, get-together's and such. Who do you reckon to be the giant draws of all-time, either of this era or of the past eras? Who has sold the maximum number of tickets, and fans flop to stadiums to watch that person play?

A few prime candidates would include:

    - Jayasuriya

    - Murlitharan

    - Ganguly

    - Anwar

    - Miandad

    - Imran

    - Wasim

    - Waqar

    - Afridi

    - Akhtar

    - Dhoni

    - Warne

    - Gilchrist

    - Ponting

    - McGrath

    - Lee

    - Smith

    - Pollock

    - Kallis

    - Lara

    - (Question-marks over) Tendulkar? Dravid? Inzamam?

I am sure there are more likely tons of dozens of others whom I haven't mentioned. That's where you would come into play. I would like to know your preferences. Who do you prefer to see the most? Also, who, in your opinion, are the biggest draws in world cricket today (and of the past as well), and any reasons attached to your thinking.

Viv Richards, Sobers, Clive Lloyd, Gavaskar, Steve Waugh, some of the names which were big draws in the past.

I think in the history of cricket, Sir Don Bradman.

In last 40 years, Gary Sobers.
In last 30 years, Imran Khan/Viv Richards.
In last 20 years, Wasim Akram.
                In last 15 years, Sachin Tendulkar/Shane Warne/Waqar.
                In last 10 years, Lara/McGrath/Anwar/Muralitharan.
                In last 8 years, Afridi/Jaisuriya.
In last 7 years, Shoaib Akhtar/GilChrist/Dravid.
                In last 5 years Sehwag/Flintoff

Re: The biggest "draws" in world cricket

If you talk about those for whom people will want to go to the stadium to watch live, and you stick with the current lot, then I gotta say one thing: people want action. They wanna see wickets tumbling and sixes flying to all parts of the ground. Thats whats exciting to most people. For the connoisseurs of the game, Akmal-Razzaq 5th day (at Mohali '05, I think) may be worth much more, but for most ordinary cricket fans a blast, albeit brief, from Afridi or Sehwag is what they will rather pay for.

So, considering that, and based on current form, I think the biggest draws are (in no particular order)

                  Afridi
                  Sehwag
                  Ponting
                  Gilchrist
                  Symonds
                  Flintoff
                  Pietersen
                  Akhtar
                  Lee

And if Tendulkar plays a few good innings now to reaffirm to his fans that he still has the appetite for big hits, he'll definitely be right up there.

                    Dhobi bhai,
Abdur Razzaq ko kahan bhool gaye? Also, I think Martin Crow would be a worthy contestant as well.

Keeping - Alan Knot - Economy of movement behind stumps
