Real reason behind poor performance- inzi afridi, younis clash / Younis speaks out

Younis, Inzamam and Afridi embroiled in clash in Barbados

    By Waheed Khan

KARACHI: In a disturbing development in the Pakistan camp, stand-in skipper Younis Khan has had a serious clash with captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and all-rounder Shahid Afridi during the first Test in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Eye witness sources have confirmed to ‘The News’ that the ugly incident took place on the first day of the Test match after Afridi expressed indignation at being asked to open the innings by Younis.

"Younis had told Afridi he would open the innings before the match started but he didn’t give a clear yes. On the first day Younis kept on telling him he should open the innings. Finally when Pakistan were getting ready bat for four overs at the end of the first day, Afridi told Yasir Hameed in the dressing room to pad up and open," the source said.

"This upset Younis and he asked Afridi why he was misbehaving and he was not one to tell Yasir to open the innings. Younis also made it clear to him he will open the innings. At that time Afridi got up and went out to open.

"But after the day’s play ended when Younis was taking a shower Afridi walked up to him and got into an argument with him accusing him of being too big for his boots. Afridi than went and complained to Inzamam who came and also confronted Younis," the source said.

"Inzamam got very upset with Younis and asked him what he thought of himself and if he thought that he was the captain and boss of the team. Younis told him to his face that while he accepted that he (Inzamam) was captain but until he (Younis) was leading the side he would do it in his own way and he should not try to support Afridi who was misbehaving with him," the source disclosed.

He said at this point Afridi also came into the argument and some pushing and jostling took place between the three before others intervened.

The source didn’t rule out the fact that this incident could have hit the players mentally and which explained their poor batting performance on the second day.

"The incident was not good for the team and it upset Younis no end because he was hurt that Inzamam didn’t support him when he was only trying to tell Afridi he needed to tow the team line," the source said.

Incidentally, the episode took place with the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan also present in Barbados to watch the match.

Waheed Khan is a prime example of how to spread stories without EVER giving references. Yellow journalism.

Arguments always happen but he just likes to overblow them to no end.

Who the f is Waheed Khan? Who the f are his so called 'sources'? Isnt it funny that When Gul Majid Bhatti accompanied Waheed Khan to the tour of India, not a single story like this surfaced?

well all im saying is that something did happen, and inzi has been denying younis as a vc n e way, if u remember his statements i feel inzi should have supported younis and inzi feels younis is a threat to his captaincy and u can clearly see this!

let's be practical, afridi in tests should bat @ number 6 simply becoz in test cricket openers need to bat sensibly, he can't. today he batted well @ number 6, he should stick to that position. we need to look for a proper test opener to partner butt, i c no hope for yasir hameed's game. time after time, the reject makes the same mistakes over and over again.

if all this is true then its a sad affair and if made up then pak team and management should sue the newspaper and the writer. why let them get away with such trash.

exactly, if he keeps coming up with these stories then take some action, but if there is some truth to this i hope its just minor, because we were gloating over the fact that this is a "team"!

All of u who think Waheed Khan is a rumour monger are living in your own make belief worlds. It is WK job to report on the Pakistani cricket team, if anyone thinks he has crossed the line they sud take him and his paper to court, that sudnt be very difficult. If they do not and release the official statement, well thats how beauracrats handle situations, never face the truth keep lying.

In the past, Inzi has demonstrated his insecurities with leadership (captiancy). Rashid Latif, Moin Khan are names which come to mind. Inzi himself is on record stating he was not happy with Yunis Khan's appointment as vice captain, who the F is Inzi to make such a stand?

Assuming this story is correct, then this is a serious breach of discipline. Undermining captain authority, misbehaving with fellow team players, disregarding a direct order from the captain and creating discord in the team during a test match.

Someone in this thread said that why it is so hard for inzi or paki players to digest success since they get carried away everytime. I just want to comment on this. Why is it so hard for fans everytime to digest defeat. Why can't we simply accept that fact that paki team can f..kup sometime. Every day is not sunday. We praise them like fanatics when they win and immediately after their first loss, infact they haven't lost the match yet (although a defeat is almost evident), we always come up with all kinds of stupid allegation. Betting, match mixing, and rumours of clashes between players. I am not saying that a clash is not possible, these are human with feelings, just like all of us and can show them anytime anywhere. We can have clashes with our brothers when we live together under one roof. But why this coincidence. As soon as we start losing ,there comes the rumours from the media. And the fans are always the first to belive the rumours. This is what i really hate about the cricket fans in my country. They treat players as if they are gods but as soon as they get a chance they kick their asses. A week ago you guys were chanting the unity song and now all of sudden you are judging their unity. Grow up guys
