    Girls r suppose to know....

    how to cook.. sew.. clean..etc..

i thought we left that mentality in the 18th century?..so y do ppl expect the same things now? y cant we expect same things from guyz?.. do we still have the idea of distinct role that one gender should play?

I agree with you. The answer to "y do people expect the same thing now?" is related to education and awareness. Getting a masters, PhD, Engineering or similar kind of degree doesn't mean thet person is educated. He/ She could be qualified with the same old mentality. Awareness and mentality needs to be corrected.
In my view, there shouldn't be any distinct role that one gender should play. Both must be responsible to share these roles.

why must girls know these types of houshold duties and guys not? I asked my mom this exact question the other day: why is it that you dont make my older brothers learn how to use the washing machine or wash their own dishes? why am i the only child in this household who has chores? What she said to me is that this is the duty of a girl. That in life girls are the ones who take care of and raise the household; education is only to be able to teach and gain respect from your children when they are in school. That guys naturally never will or do assume the responsibility of watching, raising, or taking care of the children.
Basically that girls need to know these things more.
obviously i completely disagreed and can say that i completley agree with the philosophy of Amir bhai: "Both must be responsible to share these roles"

This is not a mentality prob.. and its not so bad in all the cases.. it depends where one live and what r the requirements of a culture one is living in.. I know some times some families overdo it.. In reference to Pakistan where vast majority of woman stay at home and work (and its a pretty tough job) there is no harm in it and girls should learn to do house hold work..In western society noth boys and girls should learn .. I had to learn cooking here as well as my wife when she came here.. as she stays at home she is very happy to do household things.. I know a family here where a girl came from Pakistan after marriage and she does nothing and stays home-their house is mess. So instead of making it a faminine revolution one should learn household chores...
