    Eik guzra hua zamana

i was going through our photo albums and this one came out. It was of a qawwali-type gathering they used to have. You have the qawwali-walon (there must be a technical Urdu term for it) in the middle, and seating arrangements in a semi-circle around them. i don't know why but looking at this picture - i just feel like it's reminiscient of an 'era' that no longer exists...and it's really interesting to see which details make me feel that way. i don't know if that's a type of 'microphone' they have placed next to the sitar thingy - (look just immediately to the left of the chair). Maybe Madhanee would be able to help me out in identifying what equipment precisely is in this picture.

The two gentlemen (relatives) to the left of the picture are wearing those topis - dunno what they're called, but i call them the Jinnah topis because in all my schoolbooks from childhood, the books would always begin with a Quranic surah, then a fullpage length picture of Quaid-e-Azam wearing that particular topi.

The whole picture just kinda evokes an era that definitely does not exist anymore, i think. That cute little "bacha" in the right of the picture, is one of my Mamoos He grew up to be 6feet+ tall; when we were very little, he would pretend to chase us around and we were scared of him so we'd run away from him He was so much fun to play with.

Anyways, it'd be kinda interesting if other guppies would share some of their oldest pictures with us...blur out facial features if you want. Pictures that, preferably, show some old cultural aspect of our desi society, of an era that no longer exists.

    LOL Nadia

that "type of microphone" is nothing other than a normal megaphone. It's technology that's existed since the 1940s.

He's a photo of a modern megaphone - as you can see, the design has not changed much.

I'm very surprised though that they used a megaphone -it makes your voice sound tinny and metallic and would surely have ruined the singing!
Muslims are so good at dividing that they can divide the atom. If you see two Muslims, probably they belong to 3 parties.

It is quite a unique photo

That might be a newest technology addition to that particular Qawal or classicall music group at that time

It was the Popular music of that era

they might have added this for large gathering, but this one looks confined. In the excitement of having a new gadget at their disposal, they brought it in even for a small gathering
      Bazinggaaaa ....
